Side by Side Show October 2013

These latest photographs are the beginning of a series of images that reflect what it would feel like to be a woman who is struggling with never getting the chance to become a mother and looks to Mother Earth for answers. These feelings are not well known to the majority of women since approximately ten percent struggle with infertility. It is sometimes taken as a given that as a woman we will grow up, get married, have children and live happily ever after. For some of us though this is an experience that could possibly never become a reality.

This work explores the overwhelming feelings of loss, despair, and unfullfillment a woman may experience while mourning something they never even had. I want to show the relationships between the fragility of nature and the human body. When dealing with feelings of despair how do we look to nature for comfort, strength, and the ability to move forward? This work is a tribute to the few women who contemplate the possibility that they have failed as a woman and who look for ways to triumph through the loneliness.
